Orthobiologics: A Detailed Exploration of Regenerative Therapies Supporting Bone, Tendon, and Tissue Healing

Orthobiologics refer to biological substances used to enhance the body’s natural ability to heal musculoskeletal injuries. These therapies are widely used in orthopedics for conditions involving bones, ligaments, tendons, muscles, and joints. They support regeneration, reduce inflammation, and improve functional recovery without relying solely on surgical intervention.

Common orthobiologic materials include platelet-rich plasma (PRP), bone marrow aspirate concentrate (BMAC), stem cell–based preparations, demineralized bone matrix, synthetic bone graft substitutes, and growth factors. Each of these substances works by stimulating cellular activity, promoting collagen formation, and accelerating tissue regeneration.

PRP therapy involves concentrating a patient’s own platelets and injecting them into injured or degenerative tissues. The high concentration of growth factors promotes rapid healing. Stem cell therapies, derived from bone marrow or adipose tissue, support the repair of cartilage, bone, and soft tissue. Bone graft substitutes are used in spinal fusion, fracture repair, and joint reconstruction, offering alternatives to traditional graft…
